The before-and-after story of our Cozy Coastal Cottage project is a fun one! By the time we were brought on to the project, our client had already decided that she wanted to remove a central wall that divided her living spaces into smaller rooms to create one large great room. This central wall included a large brick fireplace, so this was a major job to be done. However, it was worth it!

With the wall gone, one large room was created, providing more space to the kitchen, dining room, and family room. We also updated two bathrooms in the home, and furnished some of the bedrooms, including the primary bedroom! Our client loves coastal design, so that design style inspired our design choices throughout the home. Check out the full transformation of each space below!

Family Room

The fireplace in the family room was relocated from the central wall to a side wall, giving us much more space to make a statement! We used beautiful high-variation blue subway tiles on the fireplace with white cabinets on either side to provide storage and a place to display decorative items. Our client’s existing sofas were kept, but we updated all the other furniture and window treatments in the room.

Dining Room

The dining room location was moved to provide more space for the kitchen, but it has the added advantage of providing more space for the dining room as well. The new dining set is grey with upholstered chairs and is paired with a navy blue hutch. A new light fixture pulls the space together and adds an elegant, feminine touch!

Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the biggest transformations in this home. We combined white surround cabinets with black quartz counters and white oak finish island cabinets with white quartz counters. Sparkling shell mosaic tiles are used as the backsplash tile to provide a coastal feel and add a touch of glam to the space. With the added space from the old dining room, we were able to add a built-in desk to the layout.

Bedroom

The primary bedroom got new flooring, paint, and lighting like the rest of the house, but we also designed new furniture and window treatments to create a peaceful sanctuary. The room is completed by a cozy chair for curling up with a good book, and a vanity area for our client to do her hair and makeup.

Bathroom

This bathroom layout didn’t need updating, but new finishes made a huge difference! Blue cabinets bring a beachy feel to the space and provide lots of built-in storage and blue backsplash tiles and irridescent grey subway tiles in the shower add a little sparkle.
