Color plays a strong role in shaping the look and feel of your home, so being strategic in using bold color vs neutrals is important to consider! We LOVE incorporating bold colors in our design projects, but we know it isn’t for everyone. If you need help considering where to use color in your home, here are our top tips for where to use bold colors!

Before we get too much into it, we want to point out that if you prefer bold or neutral colors in your home, it will depend on your design style! For example, if you like a bohemian design style, you might like more daring, bold colors and want less neutral space in your home. Or, if you like the Scandinavian design style, you might not want any bold colors and will only want neutrals in your space. If you don’t know your design style, you can take our style quiz here!

Where to Use Bold Color

1. Statement Walls

A single striking wall can serve as a focal point in a room without it being too overwhelming. Depending on your comfort level, you can use a small wall as your accent wall or a large wall, but having that accent wall is a perfect way to add bold color in a room.

2. Small Rooms

A smaller space such as a bathroom, powder room, or laundry room is a good space to go bold in your home. Because it’s separate from the main living areas where you spend most of your time, you can experiment with bold colors and patterns that might feel intense in a larger space.

3. Front Doors

Painting a brave color on your front door is an easy way to add color to your home, especially when the rest of your home’s color palette is neutral. It’s a welcoming entry for guests and can be an introduction to show the color palette in the rest of your home.

4. Accent Furniture and Decor

If you prefer a neutral space, adding a small pop of bold color in accent furniture and decor can add color without it taking over your space. For example, having a colorful rug, accent chair, pillow, or piece of art in an otherwise neutral space will add personality without being too much of a commitment.
