We’ve had clients tell us that they simply do not know where to start when decorating for the holidays. It can definitely easily feel overwhelming if you feel like you’re not a creative person, but there are a few simple places you can decorate in your home that, when combined all together, make your home feel decked out for the holidays!

Table Tops and Shelves

This is the number one tip because we all have a lot of horizontal surfaces in our homes and they are all opportunities for decorations, but this can easily feel daunting. The tip is to collect decorative objects that you love that you can group together and sprinkle throughout your home.

If you already had a few decor items on your tabletops and shelves, it is extremely easy to add a couple of festive decor items into the mix to make it instantly cheery! As you can see in the image below, they added a few decor items including a nutcracker, glass vases with bobbles and twinkle lights, tinsel trees, and woven baskets with evergreen branches to these shelves amongst their usual decor. These updates are very easy to do but add so much holiday character to the space! They added similar items to the ottoman in the middle of the room as well.

Mantle

This one is slightly obvious, like putting up a tree or adding a wreath to your front door, but it’s worth mentioning because it’s an example of something that can feel overwhelming but can actually be pretty simple! To decorate a mantel in a classic way, you can start with hanging stockings, even if they are just decorative. Then, layer in greenery and candles, and there you go! A beautiful mantle. If you have other decorative objects, you can layer those in as well and have some fun with it.

Doorways and Staircases

This is an extra step, but it adds a lot to a room! If you have extra garland from your mantle, you can drape it over doorways and on your staircase railing. Add bobbles, twinkle lights, and ribbons to really take it up a notch, or keep them simple for a completely different look.

Seats and Walls

An extremely easy way to add another layer of holiday cheer to your home is by swapping out your pillows and wall decor for festive versions. You already have the hook on the wall, just take down your everyday art and put up something seasonal! The same goes for the throw pillows – change out your everyday pillows for new ones. To make it even easier to store, buy a holiday pillow cover in the same size as your everyday throw pillows and just change out the cover, keeping the fill the same!
