Lucky for us, there is so much to do during Summer in Sacramento. Of course, the big thing you have to take into consideration is the heat, but there are many fun ways to beat the heat and still get out into the city and our natural surroundings! Here are our top recommendations of things to do in a Sacramento Summer:

Visit a Museum

A good way to get out of the Summer heat is by spending the day in a local museum! We have so many great options right in our backyard, so no matter what your interests are, there is bound to be something fun for you and your family.

We would highly recommend the Railroad Museum! No matter your age or interest in trains, it’s such a fun place to visit. Learn more about our favorite museums here:

Get on the Water

Spending time on the river is a perfect way to beat the heat this Summer. You can rent equipment like kayakes and paddle boards at a great price from the Aquatic Center, or go on a guided white water rafting trip for a little extra adventure. Or, you can always go to Folsom Lake, or a longer trip up to Lake Tahoe for an extended water day. Just remeber to follow local water safety guidelines!

Go to a Sporting Event

Our favorite way to spend an Summer evening is going to a River Cats game. It’s fun for the whole family, and get an extra show by going to one of the games with fireworks after the game! Plus, who doesn’t love eating a hot dog and singing along to songs with your neighbors?! If you are more of a soccer fan, a Sac Republic game if perfect for you. Or go to one of each! We’ve got to root for the home teams.

Enjoy the Arts

Another perfect way to celebrate Summer is celebrating the arts! A trip to the Crocker and going to see a play are perfect indoor activities for the hottest days of the year. There is also Second Saturaday which is an all day art celebration in Midtown from May-October on the second Saturday of the month. We have so many amazing art resources in town, so make sure you add enjoying them to your Summer bucket list!

Check Out a Fair or Market

Of course, Sacrmaneto hosts the California State Fair which is always fun! The rides are great, but we especially love the craft and agriculture exhibits. There are so many other fun local fairs that take place, and so many amazing farmers markets! What better way to celebrate local produce in the farm-to-fork capital of the world than to supprt our local farmers markets.
