The story of this project begins in 2016 when Rebecca first met these lovely clients! They were living in the Sacramento region (our main service area) and were looking for help transforming their family room and dining room. Rebecca selected furniture for them, designed a statement fireplace, and updated light fixtures in the great room, and the clients loved it! Fast forward to 2020, the clients moved to Nevada and their new home had some functionality problems that they didn’t like. They also wanted it to feel like them and reflect their style, so to help with both, they called us in to help!
The major problem they were facing with functionality was in their kitchen, where a small island was getting in the way of the path of travel. With the island gone, we decided to add a peninsula for additional storage and to create a space for counter seating. The clients also wanted a coffee bar and by removing a corner pantry closet, we were able to move the refrigerator down the wall to create space for a hidden coffee bar to the right of the fridge. With the layout resolved, we turned our attention to how the space was going to look and feel. The clients loved the idea of striking blue cabinets which we decided to pair with a warm grey backsplash and white upper cabinets.
Turning our attention to the bathrooms, we honed in on our client’s love for the Zen design style. They also weren’t afraid of bold design decisions. The combination of Zen design and statement design features gave us the opportunity to use clean lines, natural materials, and fun color choices, which flow throughout the home. The guest bathroom has calming green cabinets, wood slat tile in the shower, and black pebble tiles in the shower.
The primary bathroom is the jewel piece of the home, with it’s Japanese-style stainless steel soaking tub, black accent tile wall that spans from the shower to behind the tub, and natural wood vanity with waterfall counter edge. The charcoal large-format tiles that cover the adjacent walls and shower ceiling creates a warm comfortable environment while keeping it contemporary in style. Overall, the combination of design decisions created one of our favorite bathrooms!
