Accent Steps

We heard about this up-and-coming trend of accent steps a few months ago and have loved seeing it grow in popularity! The basic design concept is having a few steps in a staircase with an accent finish so they are set off from the rest of the stairs.

While researching this trend, we’ve seen many examples of different combinations of materials, but we think it’s most successful in the combination of wood with concrete or stone-looking finishes. We’ve seen examples with carpet, but we haven’t seen an example of this that we like.

Below is our favorite example of accent steps that we absolutely love! The tone of the concrete coordinated so well with the wood tone on the stairs and walls. The elongated cantilever step with the artistic accent light fixture hung above it is so simple and elegant. Everything about it feels special!

Here are some other examples of the concrete and wood step combination that we  love:

This example with the hewn stone step is a less modern, more monochromatic application of this design, but it is also lovely:

Here is an application of a bold stone step, which is perfect in this architectural staircase!
