Our city has so much to offer when it comes to Summer activities that we have to ask ourselves, why not do a staycation this year!?

Where to Stay

The Sawyer

Even if you are staying home for a staycation, feel free to get away from your home by staying in a local hotel, and The Sawyer would be a great place to treat yourself to! The hotel is not only gorgeous, but it is also right next to DOCO so if you want to go to a concert, sporting event, go to a nice restaurant, or shop, it’s all right there at your fingertips.

Where to Eat

Shady Lady Saloon

The Shady Lady Saloon is a fun and unique spot that you might not go to on the regular if you live in Sacramento, but is a place you should check out! They have an amazing menu with everything from duck tots to bone marrow and the list of cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine is amazing. They are known for their fun cocktails, so definitely plan on working that into your plan!

What to Do

State Aquatic Center

Renting a kayak, canoe, or paddle board and getting out on Lake Natoma is the perfect Summer activity on a hot Sacramento Summers day! It’s fun to do by yourself for a moment of zen, or with friends and family. Try something new and take a lesson or class for windsurfing, sailing, or water skiing! Take a walk around the lake and be on the lookout for water fouls and other local wildlife. There is so much to do and getting in the water is the best Summer activity! Learn more here!

Go to the Drive-Ins

Going to a drive-in movie theatre is a quintessential Summer activity, but not everyone has gone to our very own drive-in theatre, here in Sacramento! Even though it isn’t a traditional theatre, it shows all the most popular new releases, and there is a snack bar where you can go get your refreshments or use the restroom, so you aren’t missing out on any of the conveniences of a traditional theatre. Bring blankets and pop-up chairs and enjoy the cool night air while enjoying the movie. Learn more here!

Check Out a Local Museum

There are so many amazing options when thinking about museums in Sacramento. One of our favorites is the Crocker Art Museum which has world-class art exhibits to enjoy, right here in your backyard! There is also the Railroad Museum where you can go to learn more about California history and the history of the railroad. Or, go to the California State Capital building for a tour to learn more about California’s history. The newest museum in the Sacramento region is the Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC). Exhibits of this science museum include a domed theatre to create an immersive experience to learn more about the universe. All of these museums are great to enjoy with your kids, family, and friends!

We hope this inspires you to get out and enjoy all the amazing things our city has to offer this Summer! Let us know what your favorite local Summer activity is.

XOXO,
