This living space was once divided by several walls, with the entry, living room, dining room, and kitchen each having their own defined spaces. Our client however dreamed of one large room where all her friends and family could gather and enjoy each other’s company! She loves the industrial design style, so right off the bat we had a clear vision of what the space would look like; an open-concept room with a light and bright look and rustic finishes.
Construction had already started when we were brought on to the project, so we got to work finalizing the layout of the space, selecting finishes for the kitchen, fireplace, flooring, and sourcing furniture. For the kitchen, we selected handmade-looking subway tiles as the backsplash tile and a mixture of white and wood cabinets with dark metal finishes for the plumbing fixtures, appliances, cabinet hardware, and light fixtures.
One of the design details we enjoyed working on in the kitchen was the custom metal hood cover, made by Wildwood Customs. We worked with Wildwood on the hood’s metal patina finish, the banding and bolt size, and the scale of the hood. It turned out amazing and brings a strong industrial flair to the kitchen!
On the fireplace wall, we brought the white cabinet around from the kitchen and used the same wood finish used on the kitchen cabinets for the shelves and mantel. We also used a concrete-looking tile on the face of the fireplace for another nod to the rustic industrial style our client loves.
We then furnished the great room with bar stools, a dining set, a desk for being productive in front of the TV, and a large seating arrangement big enough for the whole family. Touches of camel leather furniture pull the kitchen and living space together, and one of our favorite furniture pieces in the whole space is the dining room chair, with their angled back metal rails.
