As we walk into Fall, it’s time to start thinking about prepping your house in ways other than decorating… Fall cleaning! After all, part of having a home that is beautiful and that you love is taking care of it properly. Spring cleaning is typical in the beginning of the year, but a deep clean is necessary a second time in the year and you want to get these things done before the holiday season properly kicks off!

The usual cleaning list of dusting, vacuuming, and scrubbing applies here, but there are a few season-specific things we want to bring to your attention.

Clean Gutters and Downspouts

Rain is coming, so make sure your gutters and downspouts are ready. Nothing is worse than a deluge of water spilling from your roof where it shouldn’t! If you don’t feel comfortable getting on the roof yourself, there are professional services that will do it for you so search for them in your area.

Clean and Reverse Ceiling Fans

With Summer ending, you’re probably not going to be having your ceiling fans running the way they have been all Summer long, so now is a good time to give them a good dusting. While you’re up there, switch the direction of the fan blades so they are pulling air up instead of pushing it down!

Sweep and Inspect Chimney

With the weather changing, you are bound to start making fires in your fireplace, so make sure it is safe to use by getting your chimney swept and inspected. Search for chimney sweeps in your area to find services near you!

Flip Mattress and Wash Pillows

Flipping your mattress helps it last longer are be more comfortable! You should do it twice a year, so if you do it during Spring cleaning, Fall cleaning is the second time to do it. While you’re at it, you can wash your bed pillows. Different pillow fills should be cleaned different ways, so check the tag for direction.

Outdoor Clean Up and Mulch

With Summer fading, you will probably be spending less time in your yard, so make sure you give it a good tidying up so it’s ready for you next year. Part of this is cleaning and storing your patio furniture, grill, and garden boxes. This is also a great time to mulch if you need to protect your plants from frost.

We hope this helps you prep for the cooler seasons ahead and happy cleaning!

XOXO,
