What is color drenching? This style has gained popularity recently and we’ve found ourselves talking to clients about it more and more, so let’s get into it! Color drenching is when you paint the same color on all the walls, ceiling, and moulding in a room, or drenching it in color from top to bottom.
This techinique can bring instant style to a room and can be used for several technical reasons as well!

When a rich color is used, color drenching makes a room chic without even trying! It’s like when you wear a fabulous coat over an average outfit and your outfit instantly looks like you gave it a lot of effort. Color drenching can make a space that would otherwise feel ordinary instant style with just a can of paint!
Why Color Drench?
As we mentioned, there are also some technical reasons you may color drench. This could include the following:
- To make a room feel larger. By painting every surface in the room the same color, you aren’t creating any visual lines for your eye to cut the space, so it can feel larger!
- To create a sense of calm. For example, we had a client who wanted to do a graphic wallpaper on the ceiling, so we recommended she keep the other surfaces calm and simple with the paint by painting everything else the same color. Incorporate the window treatments and/or furniture to further play into the color drenching!
- Make an item stand out. If you have a piece of art or furniture that you really love and want to be the focal point of the room, consider making everything else in the room a contrasting but complimentary color. This will give what you want to be the focal point of the room instant impact!
