Every year we wait with bated breath for the experts on color to release their “Color of the Year”. While most paint brands release a color choice, we always love seeing what Pantone’s selection is, and this year it is Mocha Mousse!
Grey has been the chosen neutral for so long now that we have been waiting for the pendulum to swing back to the warmth of brown. We’ve slowly seen more brown being displayed in interior publications and on social media, so the proclamation that brown is the color of the year for 2025 seems like the perfect choice to fully step into this shift in interior trends.
Our Thoughts
Rebecca’s first words when she found out that the color of the year is a shade of brown was, “It’s a brown kind of year”. The year 2024 was tough for many of us. It was hard for us in the RWD office and it seemed to be a really hard year for many others we talked to over the year, so we aren’t going to lie and say it wasn’t hard to be sitting in 2024 and seeing that brown is the color of the year for 2025. We were looking forward to 2025 with so much hope that it would be better, and then the color of the year is something that might be considered by some as a little blah.
That being said, we don’t want to forget that the color is not just brown, it is Mocha Mousse. Pantone describes the color as bringing connection, comfort, and harmony. They are also referring to the luxurious elegance of the color. While our first reaction to the color was not super excited, looking at that big bowl of mousse (and all of the other pictures on the Pantone page, check it out here!) we can see all the comfort and elegance that this color can afford!
We are excited about the prospect of designing with more brown hues and hope that 2025 brings you nothing but harmony, connection, and comfort. Click here for a look back at a past Color of the Year analysis.
XOXO,
